Associate Director of Climate + Poverty

Kartick Kumar is the Associate Director of Climate + Poverty, where he leads climate change investing at King Philanthropies. In this capacity, he heads strategy development, deal sourcing, investment due diligence and manages a portfolio of high-performing organizations addressing the challenges of climate change and extreme poverty.

Kartick has nearly two decades of investment and operations experience in frontier markets across Sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East and North Africa, and Europe and Central Asia. Previously he held a range of senior roles within the World Bank Group, the International Finance Corporation, the OECD, the private sector (private equity/venture capital), and the Multilateral Engagement sphere (G20, UN).

Kartick brings to bear a particular focus on decarbonization and energy transition issues. Over his career, he has co-led investments and mobilized patient capital into growth-oriented companies working in renewable energy, climate tech, natural infrastructure, and climate-smart agriculture. Moreover, he has worked with governments, multilateral development banks, and financial institutions to implement policy frameworks and set green banking standards, thereby expanding the range of financial instruments (green bonds) for channeling global capital flows to opportunities in key emerging markets.

Kartick holds degrees in economics and law from Cambridge University, Columbia University, and the University of Toronto.
