Dorothy J. King

Dorothy J. (Dottie) King is, with her husband Robert E. (Bob) King, a cofounder of King Philanthropies.

Dottie grew up in Madison, Wisconsin where her father worked as a coach. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1958 with a major in child development. Dottie raised three children and partnered with Bob to launch R. Eliot King & Associates, an investment management company. She was for many years an active volunteer in the Parent Teacher Association, the Girl Scouts of America, the Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford, and the Bechtel International House at Stanford. She led church services in the San Mateo County Jail for fifteen years and served as an elder at Menlo Park Presbyterian Church.

Dottie plays an active role at King Philanthropies as a board member. When Dottie was young, her family hosted an international exchange student at their home in Madison. She and Bob have continued this tradition for more than five decades by hosting international students studying at Stanford University. Sharing their home with students from around the globe has brought them much joy and given them a vast network of friends in many countries including China, Singapore, Japan, France, Sweden, and Estonia.

Dottie and Bob live in Menlo Park, California and Kennebunkport, Maine. They especially enjoy spending time with their three children and eight grandchildren.
