SOURCE
Source decarbonizes water production and increases sustainable potable water to improve livelihoods.
SOURCE has developed a sustainable water technology that uses the power of the sun to extract an endless volume of clean, reliable drinking water from the air. Its proprietary solar hydropanels provide clean, safe, and secure drinking water without the need for any infrastructure, enabling the system to be used even in remote, arid desert locations.
Access to safe water is a basic human right. Yet, worldwide, approximately 2.2 billion people lack safely-managed drinking water services and nearly 900,000 people die each year as a result. Climate change is expected to have a negative overall impact on water quality and supply, while economic development has pushed the demand for water beyond its natural limits. Freshwater has become ever scarcer and the cost of building and maintaining clean water infrastructure continues to rise.
In low-income countries, women and girls spend an estimated 200 million hours a year fetching, carrying, and boiling drinking water—time that could be spent attending school, working, or engaging in any number of other activities. In many places that lack access to safe drinking water, the problem is addressed by using trucked and packaged water. This solution is expensive and contributes to global plastics pollution and greenhouse gas emissions.
SOURCE, which is already operating in more than 50 countries, offers an innovative and truly renewable solution that sustainably increases access to potable water to improve lives and livelihoods. King Philanthropies’ investment in SOURCE will help millions of people around the world gain access to safe drinking water.
