A Tribute to Bill Meehan

With great sadness, our King Philanthropies team mourns the passing of Bill Meehan.

Bill was a longtime friend and colleague who made significant contributions not only to our work at King Philanthropies, but to the social sector at large. He served on the King Philanthropies board in its earliest days and was renowned for incisive analysis and helpful strategic guidance; his hard-headedness was matched only by his wit and always offset by the twinkle in his eye.

Bill was especially critical in providing guidance that led to the creation of Stanford Seed, and the Knight-Hennessy Scholars King Global Leadership Program.

As a longtime lecturer at the Stanford Graduate School of Business, Bill shaped many social sector leaders. With our CEO Kim Starkey, Bill co-authored the book Engine of Impact, which went on to shape and improve the performance of countless nonprofits and social ventures.

Bill’s impact on the world was profound and enduring. At King Philanthropies, we are immensely grateful for the countless ways in which Bill contributed to our work and made his mark on the world.
