Current Focus Countries
King Essentials makes grants for work in a select number of countries. These countries combine high levels of need with conditions that make it possible to achieve substantial impact.
In assessing a particular country, we analyze population-level data, social progress indicators, and factors related to economic development and political stability. We then interview stakeholders and experts to gain additional insight. In addition, we review the nonprofit landscape in a target country and look for potential partner organizations. We commit to focusing on a country only after identifying a set of organizations that meet key criteria: They must be familiar with the cultural context of that country, and they must be ready to implement their work at scale.

Despite these challenges, Liberia offers a promising environment for high-performing nonprofit organizations that deliver effective, scalable interventions. After identifying several of these organizations, King Essentials selected Liberia to be a focus country. Our work in the country targets investment areas such as food and agriculture, land rights, and primary health care.
