Launched 2019

India, home to more than 1.3 billion people, will become the world’s most populous country by 2030. In recent decades, it has witnessed immense growth in the size of its middle class and has made notable progress in reducing its poverty rate. Even so, among all countries in the world, it has the second-highest number of people who live in extreme poverty. Federal and state governments in India spend large sums of money on social services, but the scale and complexity of the country—and of its bureaucracy—often prevent those services from reaching the people who need them most. The vast scale of need in India—coupled with the ability to deliver high-impact interventions—presents a compelling opportunity for King Essentials. By supporting nonprofits that have a proven record of partnering with government social service providers, we can help to address a wide range of unmet needs in a cost-effective way. Our work in India focuses on early child development, among other investment areas.
